Losing weight this Ramadan? Are you out of your mind? I gain 20 lbs after a month of excruciating fasting!! Well at least this is what I hear and witness year after year in the Muslim households. Ramadan is a food fest. People fast from Dawn to Dusk. As the time for Iftar nears, mostly women start preparing delicious meals fried carbohydrates, sweets, sugars, and all kinds of delicacies. How do I know? Its only because Muslims have been observing the fasting in the month of Ramadan from Dawn to Dusk. For Over 1400 years, and no one has ever died from Fasting. Fasting during Ramadan is prescribed in Islam and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. For a period of 29 (or 30 days), People do not eat, or drink from Sunrise until the Sunset. They are supposed to spend time in the prayers (Ibadah), to raise consciousness (Taqwa) and mindfulness.

I am seeing that modern science is finally catching up to all of the benefits of fasting. And Health and Wellness Gurus are re-inventing all sorts and modes of Fasting. So far. So good.


But Are there any Health Benefits of Ramadan Fasting?

Easy Meatballs Recipe with Spices and Herbs

Gameday. Potluck or Everyday Protein. This is an easy recipe for meatballs. Loaded with fresh herbs and spices which are so good for you.

This recipe stores well in your refrigerator or freezer both cooked or uncooked. For those busy weekdays when you are in a rush, so you can spend time working, working out or playing instead or ordering yet another greasy takeout.

Ingredients for the Meatballs

(makes about 30-40 meatballs)

  • 2lb Minced Beef, Chicken, Turkey - really meat of your choice

  • 2 tbsp grated ginger

  • 2 tbsp minced garlic 

  • 1 tbsp garam masala powder. (I make my own but you "must" get something like this. It makes a world of difference!) 

  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 2-3 finely chopped green chillies

  • About 1 cup washed and chopped Cilantro

  • salt to taste

  • Black pepper to taste

Directions:

I wash my minced meat and let it drain properly to dry. 

Mix all of the ingredients and make 2'' size meatballs. If touching meat, grosses you out feel free to wear latex gloves or use a small ice cream scoop.

You can either save these in freezer for a week or so. But I usually cook them and save the cooked ones. 

Cook for about 10-12 minutes in a 450F oven on a roaster or cookie sheet. 

Eat with a side of roasted veggies or salads.

Meatballs Curry

    I made this Curry with this Brown Curry Sauce, Almond Flour and some Coconut milk.

    Really Simple. Mix Brown Curry Sauce, Almond Flour and Coconut milk in a pan,  and cook until the Sauce mixes, about 5-10 minutes on medium-high heat.

    Add Meatballs and cover. Add some water to get right consistency. Cook for another 10 minutes

    Garnish with Cilantro and serve on the side of Rice, Quinoa or Naan.

If there is just one thing you must do to lose weight i would say this would be it.

​This is such an amazing, refreshing and wonderful drink that not only wakes you up early morning but also helps kickstart your metabolism to burn those fat cells that you are struggling to get rid of.

Are you able to make this early morning and drink it up.

All the ingredients are carefully chosen to get you an additional boost to whatever diet you are following on your weightloss journey.

Before starting this drink, remember to weigh yourself.

And then weigh again after a week to see if it boosted your weightloss, or helped you break the stall.

​Ingredients:

  • ​Juice from 1 Lime or Lemon

  • ​A 8 Oz. Glass of Filtered water

  • ​1/2  tsp Cumin Powder

  • ​1/2  tsp Black Salt (or sea salt, rock salt)

  • ​1/4  tsp Cayenne Pepper

  • ​1 to 2 Tbsp Honey 

  • ​(​Optional) few mint leaves

​Method

  • 1

    ​Warm Water in microwave for 1 minute

  • 2

    ​Crush few mint leaves in a herb mill or a mortar and pestle and add to the warm water

  • 3

    ​Add Lime/Lemon juice, Cumin powder, Black Salt, Cayenne Pepper and Honey and stir well

  • 4

    ​Drink Immediately upon waking up first thing in the morning
